Paper Wall Pockets

From the look of this blog you'd think I wasn't doing any art. Actually I have been, just not posting much here. So I'll show and tell you about my current artistic creations: paper wall pockets. 

Each starts with a substrate of some sort of paper made into a pocket that can hold dried flowers or other lightweight objects. The pocket paper base has ranged from khadi paper to upcycled empty toilet paper paper rolls. All get layers of matte medium, collage, and paint. Some also get acrylic ink for an aged look. I may adorn them with a fringe of sari silk ribbon, or a beaded wire hanger (or both!)

Each one gets hours of attention and intuitive creativity. I love them all. Scroll down to see some of my favorites.

Paper wall pocket: Tribute to Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, with postage stamp from 1918 - 1923 and segment from his poem "The Dream" in Ukrainian. Hand stitched embroidery on pieces of vintage cloth.

This paper wall pocket started with a piece of Tim Holtz idea-ology paper I distressed, plus some Japanese text I printed on tracing paper and distressed, sari silk, wire, vintage beads and dried flowers from my yard. The hanger is a replica Chinese coin.

This paper wall pocket number started with plants smashed by running them through my Sizzix die-cutting machine between 2 sheets of mixed media paper several months ago. Gave that an acrylic glaze. Punched tiny holes with a hole punch and enlarged with ice pick. Added muted green sari silk ribbon to sides and muted gold sari silk hanger to top. Dried plants from my yard.
